Microblog Monday: accomplishment

Today I finished a task I’ve been procrastinating for more than a year: updating the photos in our dining room display frames. The photos there previously were all from AJ’s first year of life, not even including her first birthday. They’ve been feeling out of date for a long time. The goal is to highlight good photos of our family and also extended family.

This project involved:
  • Going through hundreds of digital photos that are not really organized, and copying photos to print into a file. The photos were on phones, email, computer and hard drive
  • As I went through them I made sure all the photos were saved to the hard drive
  • Uploading to website to print
  • Processing the order
  • While I was at it I made two poster collages for the girls’ rooms
  • Taking all the old prints out, putting them into photo albums, plus the other ~400 prints that I had just put in a box. We took an awful lot of photos of our firstborn.
  • Cleaning the picture frames
  • Going through the ~120 new pictures I printed, choosing which to put in the frames, and putting the rest on the albums
See why this job gets done maybe once every two years?

Nevertheless it feels very good to have updated pictures.

Something else that’s cool: I am writing this on my phone with a blogging app! Maybe this means I will write more frequently.

  1. Nicely done! Though your list made it clear this is far from a small task, so double bravo!

    1. Thanks! Sometimes I forget that it’s possible to actually get things done.

  2. Whoa, that's a HUGE accomplishment! I love all the family photos. I also love that they made their way to your walls and not just on the phone, which is where so many of mine live. They're alive! Great job. (And woo hoo to a blogging app!)

    1. Thanks! And you’re right the photos are more real - or more iconic - when they are printed and displayed. I’m excited for the app I should have thought of it a long time ago.

  3. This something I need to take a week off work to do - I have bare walls and am starting from scratch right now. I want to get some travel photos of different sizes up. Just organizing my photos on my hard drive is herculean. Good on you for getting this done, they look great!

    1. Thanks! Yeah a week sounds about right. It’s rather ironic that we have so many photos that it becomes overwhelming to go through or display them.

  4. Nice work! We have been saying that we need to update the photos that line our stairway but haven't yet. Maybe when Wes turns 10? Ha ha.

    1. Yeah it’s easy to put it off! I found it fulfilling though.

  5. Good job! I go through my black and white photo wall about once every four years, so I know how time-consuming it can be. Well done on the photo collages too.

    1. Thanks! My in laws do the black and white walk too; it looks so cool. I hope I did a good job so we enjoy looking at our photos for the next few years lol!

  6. Very nice!! We've been in this condo almost two years now, and we STILL don't have any pictures up. I bought a couple of collage frames to put in the living room & bedroom. Maybe your post will inspire me to finally fill them up & get them on the walls!

    1. I hope so! I don’t like too much stuff on the walks but the right amount and the right items make the space so much homier!
