Is it OK if I'm not enjoying this?

I am sorry if this comes across as a "poor me, I'm (somehow, apparently) pregnant" kind of post.

I know my luck is really astonishing - and I haven't even processed how it is that I am somehow pregnant in the first place. I still tend to qualify any statement about it with "as long as everything goes well..." and I'm still trying to believe it will.

But yeah.

I just spent about 36 hours (I'm trying to be optimistic and hope that the worst is behind me) in horrible throw-up land. After my pre-natal appointment where I told my doctor that the nausea was well under control, things went downhill fast.  As in....could...not...stop...throwing....up. For. hours. As one person posted on a message board "I feel more like I'm dying than creating life."

Poor Mr. Turtle was rubbing my back and saying "I wish there was more I could do to help." "Shoot me." was my answer (he hates when I say things like that).

I'm pretty sure it is pregnancy-related as it has been getting slowly worse this week. There's also always a chance I picked up something at le germ factory (i.e. school, where I've been showing up and getting by.)

I'm so glad things seem to be going well. But please. This part of it can end anytime. Not. Fun.

On an optimistic hope, here's a peek at what's hopefully going on this coming week: 8-9 weeks

  1. I'm sorry to hear that, it sounds awful. Hoping it was just a one-time occurrence, and that you'll feel better soon.

    1. Me too! although being the anxiety tripper that I am, as soon as it starts to feel better I wonder if something's wrong.

    2. Yeah, I think everyone does... the waxing and waning of symptoms is not helpful for easily scared infertiles. I think we just have to hold onto hope for a bit. Hang in there.

  2. Sending you some love! I know where you are right now! I feel the same way- I don't want to come across as complaining, but I can't stop the nausea and vomiting. Its awful. The only food Im currently tolerating is cereal- and that gets old fast. If you need someone to email and chat about the sickies I'm your girl- we can commiserate together! - email me anytime! stupidbrokeneggs@gmail.com

  3. There will be other parts of pregnancy later on that you will enjoy. Then (hopefully you will make it 40 weeks) there will be other times that it is not so comfortable again. That's ok. It dosent mean you are any less excited about it!

  4. Oh dear. Nausea is a good sign but 36 hours of throwing up sounds like it is really disrupting your life. If you can't get enough fluids or food in, you might want to seek medical help as you could have Hyperemisis Gravidarum.. which is just a severe form of morning sickness.

    1. I did go to the hospital briefly, but we were in a smaller city for the weekend and there was a nurse on call; she gave me a handful of zyfran and gravol and said see if that works. It did help but I'm super anxious about taking oral meds without my doctor saying it's OK, especially Gravol.

  5. I know it's hard to complain about something you've wanted for so long, but I don't think anyone likes throwing up for 36 hours straight. And I think we all know that you'd take throwing up for 36 hours straight or 36 days straight if it meant a healthy baby in the end. But I don't think it's reasonable to expect that you'd enjoy it. Take care of yourself and eat ginger candy?

  6. Yuck, I'm sorry about the nausea :( I remember really, really wanting morning sickness at 4 weeks and then really, really wanting it to go away by 8 weeks. On the bright side, nausea means your hormones are rising like they should! Hope you feel better soon.

  7. Weeks 8-10 were the worst for me & then the nausea got much better. I found eating something (saltines) as soon as I woke up helped keep me from actually throwing up. I hope things get better for you soon. I know it is a weird feeling complaining about anything pregnancy related after infertility- you feel like you shouldn't but I think all of us still experience pregnancy as anyone else would (except maybe with a little added fear & neuroses).

    1. I know, and then the minute the nausea feels better I am terrified something is wrong with the baby

  8. You poor thing. It sounds horrible and of course its okay not to be enjoying it. On the upside, strong nausea is a good sign for a healthy baby. I hope you feel better soon.
